Have you ever thought about volunteering for the Show? We need about 150 volunteers over the whole weekend. Some of the work involves preparing for the Show, like putting up gazebos, marking out the ground, putting signs up, especially on roads leading to Emsworth and dismantling everything afterwards. They need fairly fit people!
Some of the preparation is administrative, and involves assembling the packs for volunteers, judges and stallholders as well as telephoning and booking all the necessary infrastructure for the Show (which costs more than £20k to stage!).We still need some people for specific jobs before the Show, eg someone who could format our 8-page Show Programme in early August, or take a larger responsibility on Show Day, eg as Showground Manager, to ensure everything within the Showground Fence runs well.
Show Day itself is always fun, and again, some jobs are more physical, like directing people to parking spaces or helping with the catering for our volunteers, others involve standing eg in the big horticultural marquee ensuring that the exhibits are not touched by the public, while others are sedentary, like selling raffle tickets, providing information for people, or checking entry tickets. Most of these are for 90 minute slots, so you still have plenty of time to enjoy the Show, working with a team of people. There will be very short briefing sessions for each team during the week before the Show, and support on the day.
Our oldest volunteer is over 90, so age is no barrier, and we even have some teenagers helping us! ALL our volunteers receive a free entry wristband to the Show, and those giving a lot of help on Show Day have refreshments in the special volunteers’ tent, where they can relax and enjoy the company of others they sometimes only see once a year! Many have been helping us for over 20 years. Without our fabulous team, the Show would not happen!
We would love to have your help, so do return the form soon by email or ring me and ask about what you can do! I will really look forward to welcoming you to the team.
